graffiti girl

I saw Audrey Kawasaki's work for the first time this weekend and there was one piece that really surprised me. It had a green background and graffiti style outlines so I decided to try and incorporate those elements into my latest study.

middle aged monster
Finally found the time to get to a life painting workshop again. The Drawing Club had such an interesting theme that I couldn't stay away.

I'm tired of the classic image of Medusa with a huge afro of snakes so I decide to try something different. I started playing with the idea of her having no hair but having the fleshy snakes growing out of the lower sections of her head... In the end I needed to make the snakes hair colored for the sake of contrast but the early decision lead me in an interesting direction. The bald Medusa definitely has a more disturbing and alien feel then the classic depiction.

workshop sketches
I went to a Gnomon workshop this weekend. These are sketches I did between lectures. Mainly just random scribbles but there are also studies from Leyendecker and Mcburnie.

I spent some time down around Sawtelle this weekend and got really inspired. I often feel like my artistic interests and subject matter are inappropriate but its always so exciting to see people drawing what they love... I guess Brom kind of said the same thing.
